          About Us...

East Hill Friends is a part of the Christian church -

The word church means "the whole body of believers." Among this body are many different parts. One of these is the Friends Church. Friends got their start in England in the middle 1600's when God gathered a group of believers together based on the radical message of Jesus Christ. This gathering took their name "Friends" from the Bible verse, "You are My friends if you do what I command you." John 15:14

Friends believe strongly that worship is spiritual. Jesus declared, "God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." John 4:24  John the Baptist wrote "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy spirit and with fire." Matthew 3:11  The Holy Spirit will come upon us and live within us. He will provide an inner light to lead us and to guide us. For God said, "Let light shine out of darkness, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." 2 Corinthians 4:6

Why are we called Quakers? -

The name Quaker came later. Originally it was an insulting term used to describe the early Friends. The name stuck. However, over time, Friends became known as a people of integrity and honesty, and the name Quaker grew to reflect those values. There is even a large oatmeal company that uses the name!

What do we believe?...

We believe in a triune God. God is one; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. For Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." John 10:30

We believe the bible is the inspired word of God. "The word of the Lord is flawless." 2 Samuel 22:31

We believe God is Love and wants us to believe in him. "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him'. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son." John 3:16-18

We believe there is only one way to God. That one way is through his Son, Jesus Christ. Not through other religions, not through good works, not through good intentions; there is only one way. For Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

We believe we need to be saved. We must ask Jesus our Lord for forgiveness, confess that he is our Saviour, and publicly acknowledge him. "That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9

We believe in eternal life. When we are saved, we receive an eternal, renewed life. Another term for this is to be born again. "In reply Jesus declared, I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again." John 3:3
